More Myopic Than Me

I am fascinated by others' high myopia and feel quite competitive. I am -9 in right and -10 in left. I shudder at what life would be without high index glass and high water content polymers. I would like to post my whole prescription - just to show off (I also have a significant astigmatism) - but that might be perceived as geeky rather than quirky. And if you are more myopic than me, I want to know!

I don't know if I'm more myopic, but I have astigmatisms in both eyes. Luckily eyeglass technology has kept pace, so my glasses are not Coke-bottle thick, cutting a rut in my nose. I can't stand to put contacts in my eyes.

As for appearance, I've always been attracted to women who wear glasses; with the right ones, their eyes are amplified...

I always knew that if I stayed alive long enough, I'd win something. Actually, discounting the occasional sad little lottery "win", I did win something once: the Art Prize at school - and that's not luck, you know, that was sustained achievement with a gnardled brush and a block of diamond-hard watercolour.

Now look at me, thanks to the wonders of the Internet, I am crowned king of the speckies.

In short, I beat your myopic numbers by some margin - and, forgive the showboating, but not only do I also have astigmatism in both eyes, but each eye (especially the right) has a reduced capacity so that even with all the correction known to man, eyesight can only be restored to a rather pathetic level compared to those fancy folk with 20-20 vision.

What do I win? Will I be able to see it?

Hey Mr Z, Joking aside, that's some myopia you have, I truly have never met anyone more shortsighted than myself, and I am slightly alarmed that you are. I am lucky that my vision is fine with specs/contacts. I will need to think of a prize for you!

Don't be alarmed, my brother and sister both beat you too - though not by as much as I do. My great uncle, no longer with us, took the family prize however.

I think my numbers, at least as far as glasses are concerned, are about -18 in the right eye, and -13 in the left.

I never actually knew that, in addition to the myopia (and the astigmatism), the eye had a reduced capacity anyway. My current optician told me, she's very good and I also fancy her somewhat, so there's a silver lining to my clouded vision.

Another plus is that my sunglasses have a touch of prescription to counter the astigmatism, so I can wear my contacts plus shades and nt only look cool as you like, but also I can see where I'm going.

O D X O L N I think.

Ah, Mr Z, fancying your optician, a definite silver lining to your very impressive myopia. I have never fancied my optician, but most of them have been women.

Yes, I have considered telling my tennis teacher about my eyesight issues, hoping it would help to explain why I sometimes swing and miss and sometimes don´t swing at all (I´m talking about tennis), but then I fancy her too ...
