More on wishing your mixed race baby didn't look mixed race

Some more outraged and sensible feedback on Lowri-wish-my-baby-wasn't-quite-so brown-Turner's article.

Apparently, she wrote a similar article - but even more crass - in yesterday's Daily Mail.

I found this and this after The Urban Woo had linked to me.

I get angrier and angrier the more I think about Turner's foolish words.

I read Lowri's article having held off for a while (what with me suffering from the Insomnia Rage Virus and all)...

I cannot believe that she has written drivel such as that, and so much of it. Several expletives spring to my lips/ fingertips.

Anyway, what is her partner/ husband to think of the racist views of his child's mother (and her friends by the sound of it)???????? And yes, it is racist, Lowri, to define someone by their race/ colour and bemoan it.

And what will the poor girl, who will be darker – shock, horror – than her blonde siblings think? Will she thank you? How many insecurities are you instilling into that child?

Lowri, it is all very well, learning about life through this (yadda yadda) but having a child should elicit unconditional love, a blindness to anything so immaterial as colour/size of nose/shape of lips etc etc.

You may wish to be applauded for your 'honesty' but no, you should really be criticised for behaving like a spoiled brat whose Barbie is brown not blonde. This is a child, a CHILD. And for fuck's sake, does it take a genius to work out that he odds of the progeny of a white and brown person will be slightly darker than than Caucasian?

Idiot!!!! Grow a brain, Lowri.

Grrr...

NMJ, hello, sorry but that made me rant. I hope you are well, lovely

Mell D, you rant away, honey, I don't want to waste any more energy on her, but rarely has a piece of journalism got me so mad...in the Daily Mail article she
is woeful because her twin sister's children are Scandinavian, and this only highlights her wee girl's darkness... for fuck's sake! . . .

. . .into this positively Scandinavian next generation, I have now injected a tiny, dark-skinned, dark-haired girl. To say she stands out is an understatement.

My step-dad is Scandinavian, I doubt very much he lost sleep in the late 70s when he was marrying my (white) mother, wondering: but can I cope with the mixed race children?

When she was born, pale but with lots of dark hair, I asked the midwife if her eyes would stay blue. 'Asian genes are very strong,' she said in what I took to be an ominous tone.

I wonder if Lowri has actually met any other mixed race couples/children -

As for myself, there is an inescapable status issue to address. White women who have non-white children are stigmatised as 'Tracy Towerblocks' living on benefits, most of which they spend on lager and fags -

with this stunning anthropological observation, she seems to have little grasp of reality.

I think she must be trying to hurt her ex-husband with this drivel. Or maybe she is just one huge attention seeker.

Hey Billy Bob, yes, arse is the perfect word for her.

Thank you for posting about this - I am so shocked and appalled by what she has written that my head is spinning.

She is awful at the best of times, but my word she has really outdone herself.

That poor baby - hope she never reads about how her mother feels toward her.

PS; well done on the book deal!

My first thought was 'looming deadline panic article'. My second thought was 'silly neurotic moo'. Either put it up for adoption or get over yourself and get on with life.

I am still thinking about this woman, a week after her original article. Even if she is in a post-natal, splitting from husband maelstrom - let's give her the benefit of the doubt - she should never have gone public with these feelings, feelings which could only ever make her daughter distraught. (And it's just so sad that she has these feelings in the first place.)

John Brissenden has more good things to say here.

hey ellie, nice to see you again, yeah, the anti-gay column is utterly bizarre too, it caused uproar at the time - i linked to it in my previous lowri post - i wish she would comment on her recent column, but I haven't seen anything anywhere.

I don't know who's living in a delusional world. But everyone deserves a fair opportunity at voicing their opinions.

Miscegenation may not be seen the same way by everyone. Since the numbers of white people are dwindling worldwide, some are justifiably entitled to feel this way. If I ever ended up in a situation where the girl with whom I was to have a child was white, I'd make sure she reads this.

You mention that her twin sister's children are Scandinavian. However she is not a twin, but a triplet. The other sister however is autistic and also doesn't fit in with her perfect world so has been conveniently airbrushed out of being her triplet to being her not talked about sister.
Can it get any worse?

hey anon, yes, i am aware that she is a triplet and of her sister's disability, it has been much talked about . . .
