Thaw

During the night when the snow melts and drips, it sounds like a big, gentle animal in the garden adjusting its paws and licking them occasionally.

That's exactly what it sound like!

I like that the sound is evocative of something benign and gentle rather than unsettling.

Ah, a slow melt, not a great weight of snow sliding off the roof.

No avalanche!

When the snow was heavier it was more unsettling, slabs of ice falling off the shed roof, but it is almost gone now, and I like the noise. It really does make me think of a big cat/animal nibbling into its fur and making those wee funny noises they make when washing themselves. Definitely benign.

I love this post and have kept it marked as 'unread' in my google reader so I can keep reading it. I am not familiar with the sound of snow thawing, I love this beautiful description.

i love this!

btw: do you know about this blog? This man is the father of a young woman with CFS, and he has been tireless on her behalf, as has her whole family. (my son is close friends with the family, hence my connection.)

Thanks, Susan. Yes, I have come across the blog you mention, but I don't read regularly, a small world that your son knows the family. The blog author does a great job, the illness is a minefield.

I have been dipping into your blog too, found you through Mim, I like that your posts are almost 'spiritual' but in a quirky way. I just feel calm after reading them. Maybe spiritual is the wrong word but it feels right!
